Twenty Something Skincare

Now I'm out of my teen years my skin has changed and it needs different things. I don't know about you but I still get the odd hormonal breakouts but my skin is no longer an oil slick. I find I don't need to pay as much attention to breakouts and oiliness but more on the texture of my skin and choose products to brighten up my dull skin. I know I'm not getting wrinkles yet but I'm now seriously thinking of the future and prevention.

So here are my tips to treat your 20 something skin!

1. Switch to a creamy cleanser
A cleamy cleanser is much kinder to your skin and it tends to be a lot less stripping!

2. Invest in a good eye cream
I love this step in my skincare routine, it feels extremely luxurious and it also will help prevent wrinkles in the future. You can never start too early!!

3. Amp up the moisture
Switch to a thicker or richer moisturiser to make you skin plump and happy!

4. Invest in a serum
Serums are where it's at!!! They contain active ingredients and penetrate deeply into the skin. Look for serums that contain hyaluronic acid for fighting against wrinkles or my favourite vitamin C to brighten and give your skin some serious glow factor.

5. Get out the facial oils
Facial oils are magical and I cannot live without my rose hip oil!

6. Exfoliate
Exfoliating get's rid of dead skin and leaves your skin baby soft. It also works to even out your skin tone, get rid of dark spots and can help to fight against pesky pimples.

7. Maybe get a night cream that will prevent wrinkles
A night cream is a little bit more richer which is perfect for bedtime as your skin repairs itself while you are snoozing away!

8. Take the time to pamper
Your skincare routine is your time to relax and pamper yourself. I like to whip out my facial masks and have a nice cup-a tea. My skincare routine is like a ritual that helps me feel beautiful and it winds me down after a stressful day at work!

9. Vitamin C
Many models have mentioned they use products with vitamin c! It brightens, exfoliates and evens out your skin tone. I can't go a week without my Body Shop Vitamin C Microdermabrasion Scrub.

10. SPF
SPF is soo important, not only to prevent skin cancer but also to prevent premature ageing. I never leave the house without SPF!

How has your skincare changed over the years?

The Review: Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water

I finally got my paws on the Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water or what I sometimes like to call.... the miracle water! It seems like it's the battle of the micellar waters with soo many drugstore and high end brands coming out with their own version. Although I have adored my Bioderma, I've been on the hunt for a dupe that's cheaper and one that's a bit easier to find (Bioderma can be hard to track down in Australia!). Out of the rather large bunch of cleansing waters I decided to give the Garnier one a whirl after reading far too many rav reviews!

I always sport the no-makeup makeup look so for me this product does what it needs to do and effectively removes my waterproof mascara and foundation, no fuss! This also doesn't irritate my skin or sting my eyes which is a treat for my dry/sensitive skin. At a fraction of the cost of Bioderma this definitely will be a forever repurchase!

What's your fav cleansing water?

The Lifetstyle Post: A Little Adventure

This is one of those places that makes me want to say "Pack our bags, we're moving to the country!". Conrad surprised me on Friday morning and said "I've taken the day off, let's go on a little adventure!". I literally jumped in the shower, slapped on some makeup, chucked on some clothes and off we went.

After a bit of a drive and some terrible car karaoke we arrived at one of those quaint tucked away places that if you didn't know exactly where it is, it would literally be mission impossible to find it. The view was a postcard picture with a winery on one side and a pretty dam on the other.

Both being food craved we went to get a good feed next door at the Penny Garden. I ordered a spicy pulled pork pasta and all I can say that just writing this blog post is making me hungry! It was such a large serving that a pint sized person like myself barely even made a dent in it! We sat there enjoying our meal whilst soaking up the very green view!

After that we decided to go get some coffee next door at Yahara Coffee Works as I'm always craving coffee and to investigate their best coffee claims! Yahara is soo cute with a little gift store that all fellow coffee addicts would love and a bar to do tastings of their rather large range of coffee.

We both ordered an Iced Coffee and plopped ourselves down on a deck chair in the sun and I think we both looked at each other and said "This is the life!". Definitely a great start to a long weekend!

What did you get up to this weekend?

ASOS Dreaming

There's no hiding that I love me some ASOS and I'm scared to admit the time I spend on that website dreaming away of all the things that I wish would get in my wardrobe... right now! Atm the cool breeze and the sudden drop in temperature is telling me that winter's saying hello and is not saying goodbye anytime soon! That means I'm desperately in need of some warm snuggly sweaters, cosy boots and a scarf or here's my winter's ASOS wish list!

ASOS AIRTIME Leather Chelsea Ankle Boots

I'm not ashamed to say that I love a good ol' bargain... so sales and discounts are my thang! So I usually save my favourite items on ASOS and wait for things to come on sale. But I recently found the perfect place to get some great deals on fashionable and lifestyle items -do follow for some great deals- including ASOS! So I'm definitely thinking that these items might be in my wardrobe very soon haha!

I would love to know what's on your ASOS wish list?

Bye-Bye Blemishes

When I think of pesky pimples I immediately think of those terrible teen years where spots decided to set up camp on my face and really didn't want to leave! Back then my trusted brand was Clearasil and it makes me feel quite nostalgic as it was one of the very first cleansers I had ever used. It was definitley the spark that led me onto my passion and obsession with skincare!

Fast forward to a lot less spotty and hopefully slightly more wiser me, I have found myself loving a Clearasil cleanser again. I recently tried out the Clearasil Vitamins & Extracts Daily Scrub and said bye-bye to blemishes. Although I don't get pimples as often as I did in my teens I still want to keep my skin fresh, clean, clear and happy!

The cleanser can double as a wash and a light exfoliator which to me is like a 2 for 1 sale and who doesn't like 2 things for the price of one?! Just like any other wash you can lightly massage it into the face for a minute or two and then wash off with warm water and a muslin cloth.... or if your skin is needing a nice bit of exfoliation you can use the beads to gently exfoliate the skin.

What I look for in my cleansers is that it *must* deeply clean my skin but not be any of the following; stripping, drying or harsh on my 20-something skin! This cleanser ticks all my boxes and my skin is seriously happy and it actually feels hydrated after use. It's a dreamy creamy cleanser with tiny exfoliating beads and has a somewhat fruity scent. It also has Avocado, Pomegranate and Vitamin E to keep the skin nourished, which makes this formula friendly to all skin types!

For extra blemish fighting power I have also been reaching for my trusty spot treatment of the moment *drumroll please*.... the Clearasil Rapid Action Pimple Cream. It reduces redness and spots seem to go away a lot quicker too! It's always important to use protection from the sun but especially if your are treating acne because the sun can darken pigmentation left behind by pimples.... so don't forget that sunblock!

This duo has made sure I have not gained any new facial friends, it also has worked to make my pores more refined and has definitely made the overall look to my skin much clearer. So the new Vitamins & Extracts Daily scrub gets the two big thumbs up from me and I'm very intrigued to try the rest of the range. I would highly recommend it if you are in the shop for a good drugstore cleanser or skincare routine!

Oh, by the way if you are on the lookout for a Clearasil product here's a helpful link to their customised skin care guide which helps you to find Clearasil products that will suit your skin type.

I would love to know what your favourite drugstore cleanser is?

I was lucky enough to get these products gifted to me for review and I want to let you know all my opinions are honest!

The Lifestyle Post: The Beach Shack

Last Sunday I made a trip to my local beach shack for a good feed and to kick back and relax. I just had one of those weeks where comfort food and nice stroll along the beach was needed. I could not pass up the mouth watering chips and aioli and the awesome live music. I was as happy as a cat with a ball of yarn!

I sat and gobbled my chips down while listening to some acoustic sounds along with the crashing of the waves behind me. When I seriously thought things couldn't get any better the sunset decided to be particularly beautiful and I can't forget to mention that the sand between my toes had never felt soo good!

This was a chill end to a busy, busy week!

Ace Your Base

Just like finding the perfect basic tee, creating a flawless base sets up for the perfect outfit... or shall I say makeup look.

When I first started with makeup I never used a primer and looking back now I'm seriously shaking my head. Although it's not an absolute essential step it definitely makes a world of difference! Your pores will be minimised, your foundation will glide on like a dream and when you look in the mirror at 6pm you won't get too much of a shock. There are copious amounts of primers that target all different concerns. I personally opt for a primer that reduces redness like the Stilla One Step primer and all I can say is my skin doesn't look remotely the same without it!

When I think of the ideal base, I think fresh and flawless. I want to only correct concerns and then let the rest of my skin shine through. My philosophy is less is more when it comes to a base, a light to medium coverage foundation layered with a good concealer on troublesome areas is all you need! I would usually go for a medium coverage foundation like the Chanel Vitalumier Aqua and for concealer I'm a Nars Creamy Concealer enthusiast! A brightening concealer like Maybelline's Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circle Concealer does wonders in making me look less like a zombie and more like someone who is ready to take on the day! Look for an under eye concealer with a pink base to brighten or a yellow base to colour correct and terminate those dark circles for good!

The application of your makeup makes a whopping difference too! Using hands is great because it's no hassle and the warmth of your fingers helps to melt the foundation into your skin for a no makeup 'makeup' look. For thicker foundations brushes or a sponges are your best friends!! A duo fibre brush will give you a gorgeous airbrush glow, the classic foundation brush will give you a silky satin finish, the flat top kabuki brush will allow you to build up to a fuller coverage and a good old sponge will sheer out any foundation.

A tiny bit of powder goes a long way in keeping your foundation shine free and looking great throughout the day. If you don't like to powder or you've over done it with powder, a setting spray will save the day! I also find allowing time for my moisturiser to sink in and then blotting any excess product before layering on my foundation does wonders to keep shine at bay. At the moment I'm completely obsessed with the Ambiant Lighting Powder in Dim Light, it sets my makeup without taking away that dewy glow!

Now that you have aced your base you can choose your accessories or shall I say blush, eyeshadow and lipstick and then you can rock your gorgeous makeup look! Your skin will look flawless and the rest of your makeup will too!!
